Clear Channel Communications banned the songs from the radio so that people would not be offended.

Clear Channel Communications owned the radio stations so they should have control over what is played.

My dorm would be better, if I didn't have to share it with a roommate.  Sure you always have someone to talk to and borrow stuff from, but the majority of the time, my roommate just gets in my way.  Because I take early classes, I prefer to go to bed at a reasonable time.  However, my roommate believes that 3:00am is the perfect time to hit the hay.  Well, that leaves me with only four hours of sleep a night! Not cool!

hidden curriculum- the techniques used to teach students with an underlying meaning, depending on social class
empirical- gathering information with a scientific approach with structure
middle-class- mixture of several social classes
executive elite school- capitalist class

Reading Anyon on my own and discussing it in class offered me two different perspectives.  Reading the essay gave me the information, but didn't leave me asking questions and seeking more.  However, the discussion in class made Anyon's essay come alive.  I started to understand how it effects the individuals, rather than thinking only in terms of the four groups.

Text messaging has become the new surge of communication in American soceity.  It is an easy way to talk informally.  This has both positive and negative consequences.  It saves you the embarassment of asking someone out in person, flaking out on someone, etc.  But at the same time, it is not as personal as talking on the phone, ore even better in person.  Another problem is that people can send a text, expecting a direct response, but instead wait for hours for a reply.  Texting lingo has evolved to have shortcuts for numerous words. For example, "lol" mean "laugh out loud", "brb" mean "be right back", "ttyl" equals "talk to you later".  Texting is primarily used by teens and young adults, but the older generation seems to finally be adapting to it.  For instance, my mom texts me all the time, punctuation and all.  She concludes every text message with "Love, Mom."  Aww, isn't that just the cutest thing?  The rules of the game of texting: keep it short and disregard proper spelling and punctuation.  You know what...don't even bother capitalizing your "I" s.

I am concerned that I will not make it clear to a reader exactly what the class was like so I really need to make sure it is universally understandable.  My other issue is that sometimes I tend to jump around from past to present tense, so I really need to make sure I stick to one.

A white cross sits perched on the roof of a church with only the cloudless blue sky above, as if it had the ability to lead any viewer's eyes straight to heaven.  On the street in front of the church, people walk by, yet pause to imitate the cross from their forehead to stomach, and shoulder to shoulder.  Although two people are headed one direction, while the two other adults' paths lead the opposite way, each one reapeats the same motion, symbolizing how faith has the undeniable ability to bring humans together.

Writing about the speech class I took is important to me because it helped me overcome my fear of speaking in front of crowds. Considering I want to be a teacher when I am older, it is basically necessary for me to have that ability.  Although I had somewhat dreaded the class, it ended up being one of my favorites I took in high school and helped validate my desire to teach someday! No matter what my topic of discussion was, people were always listening and the attention was focused primarily on me, which had been out of my comfort zone at the time.  Because the class was containing people from all four grades, I gained friendships from the class that I could have otherwise missed out on. Not only did speaking in front of people improve my self-esteem and courage, but my words also caught the eye (or should I say ear) of my current boyfriend, Michael. AWW! That speech class will remain in my memory most likely for the rest of my life.

For my language narrative topic, I want to write about the speech class I took the summer before junior year.  The class helped me become more outgoing and comfortable speaking in front of an audience.  Not only did it improve my speaking skills, but it also gave me a chance to get to know my current boyfriend, who was also in the class :)

It was April 24th, my thirteenth birthday; I was finally entering into the teenager stage of my life.  For such a special occasion, I deserved the perfect gift, my first cell phone!  I could not have been more ecstatic and anxious to turn on the red Nokia and delve into this new technological, sophisticated world!  Unfortunately, dialing a number and speaking on the phone was the only previous experience I had with such a device!  Did I want to read the lengthy, small print handbook? NO!!! So what else could I do but explore and discover the numerous possibilities myself!  Aimlessly hitting random arrow and number keys brought on unfimiliar tools, building excitement with each added revelation.  After not too long, I could text without even looking down and win every game in that little red joy of mine!  Since that memorable birthday, I've received two new cell phones. Now, I can't even imagine not owning one.  Using my phone has become an everyday activity  for me and my understanding of it came from my own teachings, and not the confusing, complex ones detailed in a little booklet.  Had I read all of that material, it probably would have gone right over my head, but by my method of trial and error, I came to know and love cell phones!
